Questions

Do I need to be technical for this?

No. Obsidian is a free app that saves plain text files, and the folder setup in Module 1 is drag-and-drop simple. Module 4 (the AI layer) does more of the work for you if you're comfortable using a coding-capable AI tool, but the core system, the vault, the folders, the link method, works with zero technical background.

Why not just keep taking notes the way I already do?

You can, and plenty of people do for years. The problem isn't that notes are bad, it's that unlinked notes don't compound. A pile of 500 files with no connections between them is the same amount of trapped knowledge whether it's 50 files or 5,000. This system exists specifically to stop that from happening.

Obsidian itself is free. What am I actually paying $297 for?

Obsidian being free is exactly the point, you're not paying for software. How much time does this actually take?

Building the vault structure in Module 1 takes under an hour. Capture and linking become part of how you already save things, adding a few seconds per item. The one real time cost is a weekly processing block, most people run 30 to 60 minutes, where raw notes get turned into real, linked pages. Skip that block for a month and the system degrades back into a pile.

Do I need a paid AI subscription to use Module 4?

You need access to a coding-capable AI tool that can open and edit real files, not just a chat window. Several options exist at different price points, and the module explains what to look for. You can build and run the entire vault system without this module; it's the layer that automates the filing work once you're ready for it.

What if I already use Obsidian and have an existing vault?

The system is designed to layer onto an existing vault, not force you to start over. Module 1 covers how to restructure what you have into the raw / knowledge / schema pattern without losing your existing notes, and Module 3 covers the linking cleanup for pages you've already written.
